120 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE:
CONNECTING PEOPLE,
BRIDGING SCIENCE &
PRACTICE
27–28 September 2025
Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore

WELCOME MESSAGE
The 34th SPC will take place on 27–28 September 2025 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore. This year’s theme, ‘120 Years of Excellence: Connecting People, Bridging Science and Practice’, celebrates the remarkable journey of the pharmacy profession since the inception of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore in 1905. This year, the annual Singapore Pharmacy Congress is held in partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS) Department of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, as we both celebrate our 120th anniversaries. This partnership with the NUS Department of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is further driven by PSS’s commitment to collaborate with one of the leading global schools of pharmacy.
In the age of medical information (and misinformation), the continually evolving role of pharmacists in clinical care, public health, industry, education and research has never been more critical. As we navigate the complexities of healthcare, pharmacists play an increasingly vital role in connecting people, bridging science and practice, and driving innovation.
The 34th SPC aims to attract a diverse group of delegates, including local and foreign pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and academics. We expect a rich exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices among local and international participants. SPC will continue to be a collaborative and innovative platform to share ideas as we bring the latest scientific updates, research and advancements to our healthcare community. At the same time, the congress also seeks to encourage discussion on strategic growth and partnership opportunities of our profession, through reconnecting and building new networks.
Don’t miss out on an exciting world-class programme, featuring renowned speakers, cutting-edge research, and innovative exhibitions. We look forward to seeing you at the 34th SPC!

What to Do When My Junior Staff Tells Me “No”
SPEAKER

Dr Aiwen WANG
Singapore General Hospital
Synopsis
Have you ever faced a situation where your junior staff told you “no”? This can feel daunting and stressful, especially in the early part of your career as a young manager or team lead.
A 2020 national survey among Singapore’s patient-care pharmacists and technicians found that the perception of lack of control and autonomy at work was a significant factor for burnout, being almost two times more common in the burnout group than in the non-burnout group. A positive working relationship with the team is an important factor to build resilience against burnout.
At the 33rd Singapore Pharmacy Congress (SPC) last year, we talked about “How to Say ‘No’ to Your Boss and Get Away with It”. This year, you will:
• Have the opportunity to share your dilemmas in handling difficult conversations
• Acquire practical tips on managing such situations
• Learn how to foster the psychological safety that empowers your staff to say no you, to their boss, and still achieve effective collaboration.
Learning will be reinforced through role-playing in small teams.
• Recap of “How to Say ‘No’ to Your Boss and Get Away with It”
• Discussion on why it is difficult to say “no” and why being able to say “no” is important. Common challenges in managing situations arising from saying “no”
• Common scenarios and role playing
This masterclass is supported by Konika Minolta.

Synopsis
This masterclass is designed as an interactive forum to explore the practical hurdles and enablers of translating pharmaceutical innovations into clinical and commercial realities. With a focus on Singapore’s dynamic healthcare and start-up ecosystem, the session will highlight case studies from local ventures such as Craft Health, which pioneers 3D-printed personalised medicines, and PharLyfe+, which develops patient-friendly oral films for difficult-to-treat populations. Allay Therapeutics also joins us with their work in pioneering ultrasustained analgesic products to transform post-surgical pain management and recuperation for patients and physicians. These examples will serve as catalysts for a broader discussion on regulatory navigation, product development bottlenecks, and the critical role of multidisciplinary collaboration. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and perspectives, helping to unpack common translational barriers and identify actionable solutions. By drawing from real-world innovation journeys, the workshop will provide pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and early-stage entrepreneurs with a deeper understanding of how promising technologies can effectively move from concept to clinic.

Synopsis
The global burden of cardiovascular (CV) disease is rising, and Singapore is no exception. In the face of an increasing ageing population and growing demands for health services, the role of pharmacists in CV care is expanding. Pharmacists play a key role in optimising CV care from the acute to chronic care setting through medication therapy optimisation in heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and postacute coronary syndrome patients. In addition, we pharmacists can play a huge part in ensuring smooth transitions of care through the patient’s care journey.
Through this masterclass, find out more about the different avenues available for pharmacists in CV care, as well as learn practical and clinical tools/skillsets needed to expand your scope of practice. This masterclass consists of a series of talks by clinical pharmacists involved in CV care at various settings, ranging from telehealth to the community and the hows involved in expanding the scope of pharmacists’ role in CV care. Subsequently, participants will get hands-on practice in managing CV patients in various practice settings, to further their knowledge on the unique considerations involved in each setting.
Learning outcomes:
• List the considerations required in setting up various CV services in Singapore
• Discuss the avenues for which pharmacists can play a role in optimising CV care
• Formulate a care plan for CV patients in various care settings
• Apply different tools to overcome barriers and challenges involved in setting up pharmacist CV services in Singapore
This masterclass is supported by Novartis and Amgen.
